THE ATHLETIC STORY

Co-founder Bill Shufelt had been driven crazy that there weren’t any good alcohol free craft beers. In fact, they were flavourless, watery, and had a metallic taste. This is where an idea sprung to life in Bill’s mind to produce the best alcohol free beers. 

In order to make the business work, Bill would need to convince a brewer to leave their job making alcoholic beer and transition to the an alcohol free space. He spoke with over 200 brewers about Athletic. All but one brewer rejected the opportunity – and his name was John Walker.

To make an alcohol free beer, people had generally brewed alcoholic beer using traditional methods and then stripped out the alcohol at the end of the process. But Bill and John believed there was a newer, better way to achieve great results. Ultimately, the two came up with a unique method that involves upwards of 10 changes to the traditional brewing process that led to great tasting an alcohol free beer as a result!

Athletic Beer was inspired by a love for an active, healthy lifestyle and a love for great beer. Since day one, they have positively impacted their customers’ health, fitness, and happiness while greatly impacting our communities and environment for the better all while being a certified B Corp.
